Following the same real-query approach used to test personal injury lawyers, we asked ChatGPT for the best dentist in Santa Monica. Six practices came back, along with several individual dentists cited separately — and two things showed up in this result that didn't appear at all in the lawyer test, alongside several patterns that confirmed what we found there.
New Finding: ChatGPT Explicitly Flagged a Cross-Platform Rating Discrepancy
This is genuinely new: one practice, Santa Monica Bay Dental, showed 4.6 stars on its primary listing but closer to 5.0 with 500 to 900-plus reviews on other directories. ChatGPT called this out directly, noting the discrepancy and specifically recommending checking recent reviews and billing experiences before choosing that practice. This is a real, live example of exactly the consistency principle covered throughout this guide — when a business's information genuinely disagrees across platforms, an AI system doesn't just average it out quietly. It notices, and it says so, framing the inconsistency itself as a reason for caution.

Here, the model actively reasoned out loud about wanting genuine review volume, not just a high number attached to a handful of ratings. The practices that actually appeared ranged from about 80 to nearly 900 reviews — a real, if reasonably wide, floor rather than a strict cutoff.
Confirming What We Saw With Lawyers: Review Language, Not Just Star Rating
The same pattern from the lawyer test showed up again here, with real specifics attached to each practice: "thorough explanations and detailed examinations" for one, "conservative treatment and good communication" for another, "meticulous work and friendly staff" for a third. None of these are generic — they're specific enough to distinguish one practice from the next, reinforcing that review content, not just the number attached to it, is genuinely part of what gets cited.
Confirming What We Saw With Lawyers: The Dental Equivalent of Avvo
Just as the lawyer test cited Avvo for individual attorney ratings, this result separately cited Healthgrades for individual dentists — naming Dr. Bobak Morshed, Dr. Jason Mirabile, and Dr. Yosi Behroozan with their own specific ratings and review counts, distinct from their practice's general listing. The same trade-specific-directory pattern held here in a genuinely different profession, which is a real, useful confirmation that this isn't unique to legal search.
The Genuinely Useful Structure: ChatGPT Organized by Specific Need
Rather than one flat list, the response organized practices by specific patient need — regular checkups, cosmetic work, implants, anxiety-friendly care, emergency dentistry, and highest review volume each got their own row, with different practices recommended for each. This is the specificity principle from this guide's AEO content showing up directly in the actual structure of the answer itself, not just in how individual practices described their services.
