AI visibility work fails most often not because the tactics are wrong, but because they're tackled in the wrong order, or all at once, or not at all because the full picture feels too large to start. Here's a genuinely sequenced 90-day plan: what to do in the first two weeks, what to build over the following month, and what to treat as ongoing maintenance from month two onward.
Days 1–14: The Foundation
Start with the things that take the least time and unblock everything after them.
Claim and complete your Google Business Profile if you haven't already — accurate category, complete attributes, real business hours, and every service listed individually.
Run the manual test. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google three to five real questions a customer would actually ask, and honestly log whether you're mentioned at all.
Check your NAP consistency across your website, Google Business Profile, and Yelp at minimum — matching name, address, and phone number exactly.
Add or verify your Organization schema, including a complete list of your verified social and business profiles in the sameAs field.
Days 15–45: Building the Signals
This is where the real content and structural work happens.
Write direct-answer content for your actual services, leading with the answer a customer needs, not a paragraph of brand story first.
Start a consistent review-collection habit — a simple, direct ask sent right after a good interaction, aimed at both Google and Yelp specifically, not just wherever's easiest.
List every specific neighborhood or area you actually serve, by name, rather than a single broad city-wide description.
Begin posting to your Google Business Profile weekly — a real project, a quick tip, a current offer, nothing elaborate required.
Days 46–90: Depth and Differentiation
Once the foundation is genuinely in place, this is where a business starts pulling ahead of competitors who stopped at the basics.
Build out genuinely local, specific content — the kind of topic that only makes sense for your city and can't be templated from a generic national article.
Set up real tracking — GA4 traffic-source monitoring for AI referrals, and a consistent monthly cadence of the manual test from week one, logged over time so you can see the pattern change.
Consider testing ChatGPT Ads if your budget allows — the self-serve platform has no minimum spend, making this a low-risk test rather than a major commitment.
Revisit and refresh anything that's gone stale — an old review response backlog, outdated service descriptions, schema that no longer matches reality.
What to Deliberately Leave for Later
Not everything belongs in the first 90 days. Bilingual AI voice systems, a full content library across every neighborhood you serve, and deep platform-specific optimization for Perplexity or Gemini specifically are all real, valuable work — but they're additions to a solid foundation, not part of building one. Trying to do everything at once is a common way this work stalls out entirely.
